“As an artist, it’s your job to get your work in front of the right people. And to do that, you need to market yourself, show up consistently (not to mention effectively) online, and basically shout your art from the rooftops. Because otherwise? No one’s coming. At least... not any time soon.”

Ouch, sorry. I know.

But it's the truth.

Here's more truth - I'm not going to sugar coat it:

If you're an artist who wants to have a powerful online presence, sell your work consistently online, have a social media following who gobble up everything you put for sale and rejoice every time you post your art...

That's totally possible.

But it's going to require time, effort, and digital skills.

(btw - I want to pause and give a quick caveat here - there are absolutely other paths. You *could* - in theory - keep making art in obscurity, waiting for someone to discover you, and eventually 15 years down the line, have your "big break" & finally land a gallery promote your work for you, and never have to touch an artist website, reels editor, or shipping label in your life. That's a legit path for some - and there are hundreds more paths like it. I'm absolutely not claiming this is the only way - and I encourage you to trust your discernment around what's right for you.)

Ok, caveat out of the way - let's continue:

It's 2025.

We have the absolute and utter privilege of internet access - something that the artists of the past could only dream of.

The same artists had to rely on the people in their immediate, IRL circle to see them, actually like their art, and also to have the means to buy their art.

Whereas you? 

You have access to literally BILLIONS of people -via the little screen that fits in the palm of your hand.

Which means sure, if the people in your immediate circle aren't your art's greatest fans, that probably feels pretty ouch 🥀 

...but it's absolutely not a death sentence to your art career.

Why?

'Cause you have a lifeline to thousands and thousands of people who are interested in the same things you are, who are visually drawn to the same things you are (read: who are your IDEAL art audience) all over the world, - in the palm of your hand. 🤳📱✨

But,

and this is a BIIIIIIG but.

Doing it this way requires you to know what you're doing. 

And the skills of visibility, going your own way, communicating your art well online - They often feel like invisible skills.  

When your favourite artist does it - it might look effortless.

I've been selling my art online since 2015 - in many different forms. I started with an Etsy store selling my handmade polymer clay jewellery, then I shifted into oil paintings and fine art prints, then I ran IRL workshops, then online courses. And now? I oscillate between *most of the above* 

All of this to say - I've been studying and implementing digital skills in my art business for 10 years. 

I've never been represented by a gallery... in fact, my concept for my first solo show was rejected by the gallery I pitched it to.

I've sold original paintings & prints to collectors all over the world - one of my pieces has even done over $20k in print sales alone. I've sold out in-person oil painting workshops, and done online course launches that would make your eyes water. 

I've been following my nose (& my intuition) and building my creative business MY WAY since 2015.
